The web never sleeps. Being responsible for digital content creation and strategy for Vela Agency means Gail Vadia moves fast and is always on, delivering thoughtfully crafted articles and working with the team to create websites that get our clients noticed.
1. What do you do at Vela?
I get to do so many things that I love here. Content creation is my passion – be it long-form written articles, social media posts, website copy, scriptwriting, graphic design or video production – and on any given day I could be doing all of the above.
I also help our clients develop strategies for SEO, website development and digital advertising. I enjoy analyzing the data behind web content to determine what our clients’ customers are looking for and how we can deliver the best experience possible for them. More on that later.
A new initiative for me is leading the development of Vela’s media coaching program, which is intended to help our clients deliver the most impactful messages when they’re speaking on-camera, from the podium or in meetings. I’m excited about this offering; we have a super coaching team with all the right talent to help our clients communicate more powerfully.
2. What did you do previously?
I joined Vela from the Volvo Group, where I worked for seven years in marketing and communications roles. Prior to Volvo, I worked at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce for five years in marketing and recruitment, and before joining the chamber I was a television journalist. All of these positions were very exciting, challenging and fun. I’m grateful for the wonderful experiences and opportunities I’ve had throughout my career. I’ve been able to touch many facets of marketing, and this broad background has made me a quick study on lots of different industries and topics.
3. Why did you want to work at Vela?
At Vela, data drives our vision and how we form strategies for our clients. I’m a data-driven marketer and find it incredibly fulfilling to work with a talented team that understands the importance of analyzing and organizing data so that it tells a story. We then use those stories to identify issues and opportunities for our clients and put together plans for them.
The Vela team is wildly creative and collaborative. I never hear the word “no”, and I never stop learning here. I’m excited to come to work every day.
4. What do you want your clients to know about you?
Once a reporter, always a reporter. I have a strong natural curiosity and a passion for helping others, which pushes me to be more than just a good storyteller. I ask a lot of questions and do copious amounts of research to ensure I understand my clients’ business, their target audiences and how I can help them achieve their goals. Because I worked on the “client side” for most of my career, I have the intrinsic ability to put myself in clients’ shoes, which helps me be cognizant of their workflows, processes and deadlines.
5. What’s your hidden talent/ability/superpower?
I’m really good at diffusing difficult situations, from tense meetings to scuffles between my 8-year-old and my 5-year-old. I don’t shy away from addressing tough topics, and I try to do it in a way that helps everyone see each other’s perspective and meet halfway. I’ve been called diplomatic, but I think I’m really more empathetic. Caring about people and understanding what motivates them has made me a better marketer, mom and overall human being.
